Tennis shouldn’t be called a “luxury sport” by one of the perspectives, but if
you compare it with many other team sports, then it is.
If you compare it with golf, horseback riding, sailing, skiing (water and snow),
scuba diving and driving – are not luxury sport.
In some places, you can play tennis and spend almost nothing, but there are
places with very expensive indoor courts with modern cooling or heating systems and
with high-quality surfaces.
If a player gets lessons from some top quality coach in some
elite sports club, indoor, on clay court – count that it will cost about
few hundred dollars per hour.
If you do just three times per week, two hours of tennis, some lessons and some games with
friends – there is 1000 $ per week plus the membership if we are
talking about some fine tennis country club.
Rackets and balls are not expensive but everything else – is.
